I also liked Stephan Gill’s work as his work was very different and unique. I think that it really opens your mind to photography it shows how imaginative and creative you can get. I really liked his idea of using items that he found off the floor as this makes the work look more interesting and abstract. He done this by using a very old camera and put all the small objects that he found in through through a box at the top. Instead of throwing away the objects that he found, what i liked was that he kept all the pieces of items that he found, arranged and categorized them and put them into size order and displayed them as part of the exhibition. This artists style of work really shows how experimental you can get as art is formed in many different ways.
I wanted to go to the Lighthouse and the event that was happening on Thursday 14th, but unfortunately i could not go due to parents evening
but according to everyone’s thoughts, and the discussion we had in class afterward, it sounded like there were a few errors that did occur but they were minor. Overall the event was good and most of it did go according to plan
On Saturday 16 October we met up at the Lighthouse around 1 o’clock. At the Lighthouse i got given my view finder jumper. I liked the idea of us wearing a jumper with view finder on it because it showed people that we are part of the project. The jumpers were nice but i think they could have been better and improved: If the pictures of letters were bigger then it would have been eye catching but overall i think they are nice because the jumpers were made in a very little amount of time.
We all had a group discussion about the day and we planned out about what was going to happen. Then we chose the jobs we wanted to do and planned out what we wanted to say and then we decided on what location we ere going to work in. The Venues were the Lighthouse, Churchill square, Fabrica, Brighton museum and the pavilion Garden. Me, Shannon and a supervisor Called Leigha (Juliette’s colleague) went round the Pavilion garden and we also went round the Brighton Museum.
It was quite embarrassing to go around and talk to random people in the age range of 13-19 as i am quite a shy person. But after a while, by watching Leigha approach people and talk to them, it made it look really easy and it made me feel more comfortable to do it. And soon i started talking to people and got confident and started telling them a bit more about the project.
The hard part was to find people in the right age range as nearly all of them there were a older age 20+. I personally think the best place to hand out the flayers would be the town center like Churchill square and the Laines as more teenagers go about and hang around in those sorts of areas.
Some people that we spoke to were quite rude, ignorant and weren’t really interested in the project ‘no i already have one’. However others were interested especially when we mentioned about winning a free digital camera :L that instantly grabbed peoples attention. It was hard to talk to people and keep them interested, the annoying thing was the weather as it started raining and then people started rushing around getting frustrated so it wasn’t really the best time to try and get their attention.
lastly, if i could change anything about the day i would want more people to turn up and take part in the project. i would also want the age group to be change as it was hard finding people in the correct age group. The disappointing and annoying part of today was when i found out that only 1 person actually came to the light house to upload pictures, as i had high hopes and thought that lots of people would turn up, take part in the project. I thought that the project would come really successful. Another thing i would change is the amount of time that people got to upload their pictures and view. I would extend the time as then it would give people time to participate as people are busy and then can do it in their free time. Hopefully people uploaded pictures of their own at home or on their phones.
In conclusion, i think the day went really well as we worked together as a team and we had everything sorted and organized. I enjoyed taking part in this project as a result we missed a lot of school on Wednesdays
and we also went on lots of trips to different places were i haven’t been before.
:L ^_^ -_-
When we went into the Brighton museum we looked at different artists. Their work were completely different to each others. The work i liked a lot was the work of Rinko Kawauchi. The reason i liked this artists work was because i liked the way she took pictures, especially the ones with the starlings. My favorite piece was a picture with a beautiful view, nice calm sea and the starlings flying past at the top, all captured together. I personally think that this picture shows a very calm perspective of Brighton
Last week we had some visitors from Lighthouse, Photoworks and Brighton Photo Biennial. They showed us lots of leaflets and books with lots of Artists’ work. Although some of the work was really random and strange i found it really good and interesting to see all the different work because they were all experimental and different to each other in many ways.
A few weeks ago Me, Shannon, Natasha and Jess 01 started making invitations. Me, Shannon and Katrina did one part of it; we put the names of all the students participating and we also used the letters from the Alphabet to create the title ‘view finder’. Natasha and Jess 01 worked on the other part and they put all the relevant information on the front, and now finally we have FINISHED yay!!
A thew weeks ago we went to Lighthouse but what we didn’t realise was that Marianne was in Turkey :L so we decided to go to the beach; which was a lot of fun – and finish part of the project off; the alphabet. We walked on the beach and took pictures of words from signs, created some using pebbles and some pictures of objects that looked like letters. Then we went on the pier and also took some pictures there, so most of our pictures we took at the beach and of signs on shops but some of them are done at home.

This is our Animation of the word Brighton. We created it using still cameras to take photographs of letters from shops to create the Animation.
When we went to Blast Theory we saw pieces of there digital art work. the work i liked best was the game they produced called “Can You See Me Now ?” it was very interesting and unusual because of the system of the game. At the start of the game you were made to answer one question which was “who haven’t you seen for a long time?” after that you were placed in a random location somewhere around the world. the game involved being chased but there wasn’t really a aim of the game because there was no end and no way of completing it. which is different because every game has a goal to reach so you can win.
