Saturday…

On Saturday we had our big final exhibition, I was petrified at first because i wasn’t sure what to expect. For instance I didn’t know weather lots of people would turn up or if no one would turn up. It was very nerve-racking.

When we arrived at Lighthouse ( where the exhibition was being held ) we all sat down and discussed who was going to do what. Some of us needed to go into town and some of us needed to go to Fabrica and the museum and two of us needed to stay at Lighthouse. I was one of the people that stayed at Lighthouse, I stayed with Hayley. After we had all decided where we were going, the teachers split up and choose their places to. :)

Staying at Lighthouse was nice because it was a warm relaxing environment and we got to look at all the photos we had taken on Thursday in Jubilee Library. There were loads and loads of photos. Me and Hayley had to decide which ones to keep, this was quite hard because they were all really nice but some of them were just silly photos.

After looking through them all and choosing which ones we wanted, me and Hayley had to upload them to our website and the Take-Part website. We also uploaded them to Facebook and linked the website to them, because we thought this would get a greater audience because usually if teenagers aren’t out and about they are on facebook. So then the teenagers on facebook could see our blog and maybe come  check out what we were doing if they were interested. We first uploaded to the Take-Part website and made some views. It was really easy and simple to use, the only confusing bit was uploading the actually image because it would take forever and you wouldn’t know if it was uploading until it said that it had successfully uploaded your image.

Uploading to our ViewFionder website was  much harder it  just took forever and, annoyingly, once they had uploaded the website wouldn’t let you see them. Which is a shame because everyone would have been able to see our documenting from Thursday.  After uploading all of our photos, me and hayley just had to wait around for people to come and upload their photos. After a while it got a bit boring so we started blogging on to our websites and also on to facebook to try and persuade people to come along. We waited and waited, then Jess and Taylor came back from handing out the flyers and were knackered then Fusna and Shannon came back. It had started raining outside which wasn’t a good thing. Then it was mine and Hayley’s turn to go out and talk to people.

We were both really nervous because we weren’t very confident to talk to people but we knew we had to do it. The woman that we was with ( whose name escapes me ) said that the first person she would talk to, to show us what it is like and to give us a feel of how it all works. Before we had to think of even talking to anyone we had to look and find people that were in our age range of 13-19. This was really hard because some 11 year olds looked like 13 and we couldn’t judge the 19 year old age either. Our supervisor went over to a family who looked quite welcoming and asked them if they were between the age of 13-19, unfortunately the child was 11 so she wasn’t old enough, we then asked if they knew anyone that was 19 and would be interested in uploading photos. They said yes, but they weren’t going to see the person that day. Which meant that she wouldn’t be able to upload to the website before the deadline, which we thought was 5pm on that day, but then we were told after the exhibition that it was actually until Wednesday at 5pm. After talking to that family we looked around Jubilee Sq and we couldn’t see any one that was in the age range so we walked round to pavilion gardens and looked in there, again we couldn’t find anyone, which was weird because usually your guaranteed to find some teenagers hanging around there. There was a Street Market on as well which didn’t help the situation because it meant that there was loads of load music which meant that people couldn’t hear us when we attempted to talk to them but it also meant that people were getting drunk so loads of people were being really rude towards us. We did eventually talk to some people and they were in the age range and they were interested which was really good. They were really kind and weren’t scary at all which was great!  We did talk to a few people but because many of them were drunk and there was loud music they either didn’t hear us or weren’t actually listening. After trying to talk to people me and Hayley and the supervisor went back.

In the end one person turned up to upload photos which was disappointing because we had all worked really hard on this project and it was all for this day and sadly only one person came. He did upload some photos though which was good, also I guess that one person is better then none. :)

If we were to do it again I would make sure that we were more organised because we were unsure on quite a lot of things and the main thing being the deadline of which people had to upload by, we ended up telling them the wrong thing but also on the fliers it said the wrong deadline. Also i think we should of made posters and fliers so that people knew where to go because even though we gave them a map i don’t think they would have used it, if there were fliers around and a poster outside the actual lighthouse then maybe would of been able to find it easier.

One last thing is that i would of changed the age limit to 10-20/25 because we would of got a wider range of views but also because it would of been easier to find the people when we were handing out the flyers. I did enjoy Saturday though because one person turned up and uploaded their photos but i also liked it because it was a new experience for me and i hadn’t done it before. :D :D

Thursday Exhibition…

On Thursday we did our first exhibition for our project Viewfinder, it was at the Jubilee Library and we were going to present it to all the children/young people that hang out there to finish their homework and also to the ” We love Thursdays” group.

We arrived at the library at 4:45 and had a small discussion about what we were going to do. At this point there were already some people there so i was beginning to get really nervous. We were all given t-shirts with viewfinder on, i liked them a lot. But if i had to change anything about them i would have made them more “loud” and bright because they didn’t really stand out as much as i would of wanted them to… but that is just my personal opinion and maybe i would of had a different design for each person.

After putting the t-shirts on we just kind of sat around waiting for when we were going to start and making sure that all the electrical equipment was working. Everything we needed for the presentation was working but when we went over to the computers to get our websites up our taking part website didn’t work. It looked as if though someone had cut the bottom and the top of every word so you just saw the middle bit. We were all quite worried about this so Juliet phoned Paul and in the end we managed to solve this problem…luckily.

When the time came for us to do our presentation and our speeches their were quite a few people there and it was all going well so far. Sara, one of the people who work at the library and also works with the young people, did a short introduction first just thanking us for being there and also for the young people being there. Then it was our turn.. Connor started off and at first it was quite hard to get their attention but after a few sentences Connor had their attention, then it was Jess’s turn and we changed the sideshow over so our animations came up, i was documenting and i could see that some of them liked the animations and were enjoying it. After Jess it was Natasha who had the last speech to do they all did their speeches really well but at the end there was kind of a silence where no one really knew what to do so Marianne stepped in and explained a bit about what we had to do. If there was anything i would change about the presentation would be to give more time for the people to prepare their speeches but also to have a separate group of people working on the presentation so then it may have been easier for Jess, Connor and Natasha to work on their speeches. Also the arranging of the seating was very off putting because they were all squashed to the side maybe next time if we were to do it again we should place them so that they are facing Connor, Natasha and Jess.

Then after the speeches the people sort of split of into their own little groups. They did this themselves. One group went and sat back on the sofas in the corner, which was quite awkward because they were set up so that they were sort of boxed of from anyone else so i found it really intimidating to go over and speak to them. Whereas the other group sort of hovered around, which was much easier for us because they weren’t as scary to approach. We then sat around the computers with this group of people and explained our websites to them. Marianne and Mr Moot then gave us some cameras for us to go around and take photos of things that we could upload to the Take part website.

At first, no one really did anything and we all just either sat there or stood there then eventually we went into a group. I was with Jess, Hayley, Katrina, Connor and Anar and we went around with a group of girls. They seemed quite interested in taking photos because some of them had their own cameras and some were just having fun. We walked around the library taking photos some of them were of the library but the majority of them were of them and their friends. We then went outside and were taking photos out there it was really fun and i was really enjoying it. We were documenting it by filming on a little camera which was funny. When we had finished we went back inside and tried to upload the pictures but the memory card reader wasn’t working so we had to wait ages for the Library staff to find one, luckily they did have one and it worked. when we had uploaded them to the computer we tried to upload them to the website but that wasn’t working properly because the submit button wasn’t coming up, which was really annoying so we didn’t actually get any photos uploaded.

Overall, i think the exhibition went okay in places it was good but in others it was just bad. If we had to do it again things i would change would be to have a louder design on the t-shirts so they stand out more, then i would make sure all the electrical stuff was working but also that the presentation was long enough for the speeches. One main thing that i think would have been nice was to of had a range of kids there because it would have been nice to of got different perspectives from the range of ages. I think the timing was just right though because it was light to start of with and then slowly towards the end it gets darker which means that people can get different shots on the camera but also they can have a different perspective!

Well done everyone, i think we all did really well :D

Thursday!!!

Wow! Thursday went really well!! WELL DONE GUYS!

On Thursday we did an exhibition to young people at the Jubilee library. At first it was nerve-racking and i didn’t want to talk to anyone, but after we had started to explain the website to people it got a bit better :L

Jess, Natasha and Connor did really well in presenting their speeches to everyone because i knew they were really nervous also the presentation was really good and i think the young people liked it. Me and Hayley did some documenting throughout they were really funny and we got some good shots of the group.

Me, Katrina, Hayley and Jess walked around with a group of girls from the We Love Thursdays group in the library, we gave them a camera and told them to be creative and take photos of things that related to the words on our website. They did well but you can only take so many photos in the library. Then we went into Jubilee square and they took some photos of the buildings. A woman who works at the library came around with us her name is Sara she was really nice and took some photos as well.

We documented with a film camera the whole way round and had great fun,

Overall i think that it went really well!! <3

Talking to people?

Ahh me and Hayley just went out to talk to try and get people interested in our project, we hoped that this would get them to come to Lighthouse and upload some images… this didn’t work… :L

We attempted talking to people but most of them ignored us.. :/ Although, there was a couple of people who were really nice and welcoming and seemed really interested in the project :)

From this i learnt that it is much harder then i thought to talk to people that i don’t know and that the people who do this for a living have a really hard job!!!  :D :D :O :D

Volks…

Today :)

THANK YOU for the pizza TODAY!

We just all sat down and ate some pizza’s together it was really nice because we usually go off for lunch but i liked it today :D Its also  quite sad though because today is the last day that we are going to come to Lighthouse so i would like to say a massive thank you to them for letting us come and visit every week! :D

Thank you LIGHTHOUSE! <3
