Three weeks of unrivalled arts celebration
This May, Brighton comes alive with a powerful and exciting programme of cultural events in celebration of this year’s Guest Director - Aung San Suu Kyi and her passionate plight for peace in Burma.
Brighton is the ideal city to host a festival celebrating themes of freedom and liberty through the form of music, dance, circus, theatre, art, film, talks and many fantastic free outdoor events for all ages, by both local and international artists.
Aung San Suu Kyi - the courageous leader, human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner - has fought passionately for democracy in Burma and taken to the heart of this year’s Festival is her plea ‘use your liberty to promote ours’.

Brighton Festival Fringe is one of the largest and fastest-growing open access arts festival in the world and the largest in England. It sets out to stimulate, educate and entertain a wide audience by providing a showcase for diverse art forms. No artistic judgment or selection criteria are imposed on participants, enabling the development of both new and established work to attract fresh audiences, press and promoters.

Mr Watt, Grumpy Man of Metal, lives in a metal world and makes metal things – a crab’s bicycle, a flying machine, a new kind of trumpet. He is the creation of craft maker Jon Mills who presents the disastrous adventures of Mr Watt in a series of short books.
Hove Museum hosts Mr Watt and many of his creations in this exhibition of metal pieces used to illustrate the books that will appeal to adults and children alike.

White Night is an all night free cultural festival that marks the end of British Summer Rime by encouraging artists, venues and audiences to do something different in the middle of the night. This year the theme is Illumination, and the special events created for the BPB 2010 an Photofringe celebrate photography as a medium of light and democratic art form: encouraging the audience to play within the themes of the exhibitions in different and unexpected ways.

A mini photography marathon facilitated by young people from the View-finder project at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (formerly Falmer High School). Bring a camera (or phone camera). Images and artwork will be uploaded to the View-finder project website. Prizes to be awarded by the View-finder team.
