At first the website was very complex to use, also it looked very dull regarding the visuals of the website due to the lack of colour. After a group discussion we decided to make the website easier to use, so everyone could use it without any guidance needed. The visuals of the website did get better but only changes actually happened. I liked how you could personalise your own profile, by producing your own interpretation of the view-finder logo. But, I would have preferred the choice of applying colour to our profiles as it shows our individual style. The process of uploading a photograph or video produced either by a flip camera, still camera etc. was very easy to do and no instructions were needed due to the simplicity of the uploading process. I admired the simplicity because if it was difficult your target market would just not bother. This links to the take part website as you want people to show there personal views and observations of Brighton. There was quite a few changes to the website, but this just made the website even better for everyone to use. If I had to do this project again, I still would further develop the website as if you compare this to many other social websites they continue to get better and better rapidly due to digital equipment is becoming very advance. The links and buttons are in need of colour but this is not much of a problem, as they are used alot to travel from page to page and in my opinion a lot of people would be more interested in the visuals of how every page is presented. Overall, the website is brilliant there are a few minor problems but they can be resolved really easy. Every ones views on this subject are different. I admire lots of colour and pattern but thats my style whereas others like different styles but then if you tried to correct this you would be here forever due to every ones style is completely different.
Back at school, we formally met Marianne and discussed the website and learnt the structure of how it worked and how to update posts. At first the website was very untidy but a couple sessions in, it was tidy and easier to use. We all had our own profiles and made them our own the first day we got them. About two sessions in at school we started going on a variety of trips so we could upload greater content to the website. Trips were mainly local as one of them was at Stanmer park, where we met Rachel Henson and viewed the books which she produces which were outstanding due to every little part of detail being immaculate. Although it took her a long time, in my opinion it was worth it. Each trip was different due to us learning all of the prospects of digital art for example, we saw a game produced by ‘Blast Theory’ called ” Can You See Me Now ? “. This game was first tested in Japan and the aim of the game was that you had to run away from a chaser. At the beginning of the game, you are asked a question ‘ Who haven’t you seen in a long time ? ‘ then you answer. You are then randomly chucked into a unknown spot around the world. The strange thing was that the game was play pix-elated and in real flesh due to the runner plays in the real world. Once you are caught on a computer playing scanner screen, a photograph is taken in the location where u were caught in the actual real world. This game showed that interactive and the real world can blend together in a good way and contrasted the worlds together. Other games included mobile phone technology for example: ‘ Text messaging ‘ of mobile phones also some more communication ideas like: ‘Subscribing ‘ and ‘Emailing’ through Internet communication. There are also many more techniques linking digital art but we did not have enough time to learn them all although that would lead on to a more higher extend of knowledge.
I liked going on all of the trips, due to the fact that everytime they were slightly different and interesting to attend. Also, everytime i learnt something that helped me later in the project and helped me to contribute ideas to group discussions. Ideas were always needed as this gave the project our own little personal touch and opinion, this allowed all of our group to contribute and get involved.
After the trips, we had a lot of content to upload to the website so we went to the lighthouse and used their equipment due to it being very high standard and they had the proper software to complete basic operation. The computers were at a very high standard and worked consistently to their best ability. Although, at first i had a few difficulties with how to work the softwares; but as sessions progressed I learnt it gradually, and then i knew how to use it automatically. The lighthouse helped us with our project due to the computers being newer and contained newer technology which upped the consistent standard of the computer.
Overall, i learnt that art isn’t just canvases and paint – there is more to it. And now i would like to carry on and study more types to explore the history of art and techniques to use in my own work and examine the methods. I liked participating in this project so much as i learned that art is unique and this makes it more strange and interesting which i like. In my opinion, everyone is different and that is what makes art and opinions different as tonnes of individuals express different meanings. But art is supposed to be different, if every piece was the same art would be boring and this would attract no attention to the eye.
I really enjoyed using still cameras to create flip-book animations and i also enjoyed using flip cameras to make mini movies. I liked using these different types of technology they are easy to use which helps us add significant artificial effects. If i ever got to do this project ever again, I would like to learn a lot more and let the project continue for a longer time span. We had to rush a lot through the project and did not have enough time to complete what we actually planned to do. Also, I would change how the project ended due to when we presented the new website to the public we did not get many participants turn up as it was hard to approach them and also the targeted age range were not situated in the areas we went to. But the project was very interesting and educational and changed my view of digital art. Also, the project had it ups and downs but this showed us how things happen, it just depends what happens on the last day. In my opinion the new website is very open minded and lets every one spread there view in any way they like, also it shows every one what Brighton is and where it is actually located.
This is the new web site and its work really well and I really like the background because its Brighton map and on front is Brighton’s cool places.
Good thing is you can take a photo and upload it to this website and you can choose which street and cool places in Brighton you want to link it to. People can comment on your photos and they can see your photos.
